The Classic Kale Chip

kale chips 1I have waited an embarrassing amount of time to try these out. I’ve read the posts where people rave about how inexpensive and deliciously snackable homemade kale chips are but it took quite a bit of time to test it out in my own kitchen. Have no fear that time has come and I have lots of encouragement and ideas to share with you.   Here are the basics:

  • Kale is beautifully cheap at a grocery store.
  • Kale chips however, are quite the opposite.
  • With an oven and about 30 minutes, you can make your own.
  • Oh, and they’re a great, guilt-free snack that you can make even if you don’t consider yourself a culinary wizard.

Let’s Begin.

Ingredients

  1. one head of kale
  2. 1 tbsp olive oil

+ toppings of your choice. Featured here, equal parts (I used about 1 tbsp) garlic powder, sea salt, nutritional yeast, and a pinch of taco seasoning just to honor my inner spice- adventurer.  No regrets, it was delicious. And I did notice that the flavorings go much further than you’d expect, so I’d start lighter and add more after baking if you’re unsure.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F
  2. Wash kale thoroughly, and pull apart into “chip-sized” pieces. They will shrink some, but also break easy once their baked so I chose to make bigger chips in an attempt to postpone the inevitable crumbling.kale everwhere!
  3. Scoop all the kale into a large bowl, and drizzle the olive oil over top. I found that mixing with my hands was the easiest way to make sure it evenly coated the batch.kale stalk
  4. Sprinkle the seasonings on top, I mixed it in the same fashion.
  5. Bake for 15-25 minutes. My batch cooked in about 16 minutes, turning them over half way throughkale macro
